Last Wednesday, Your QFM in Bemidji, Minnesota had Lorraine and I in for a 23 minute interview. The interview was set up after launching our new program, Those Who Have Gone Before, had been playing for nine weeks. We had a great time in the interview. Phil Elke, the owner of Your QFM is one of the nicest guys I have ever met.

In case you are not familiar with Those Who Have Gone Before, I’ll give you a quick run down. The program is about great Christians from our past. Why is it so relevant? For a couple decades now, society has been talking about the value of role models for our young people. Role models are important because they are a living example of someone we can admire and follow.

The truth of the matter in recent years, is that our young people don’t have viable role models, I guess perhaps because our society has become a big tangle of what borders on propaganda. The advertising world leads the way, telling half truths and presenting slick adds to appeal to us emotionally, so we will buy the product. I think, generally in America, the media is always trying to convince us to buy what they are selling, by persuasive talk that gives us half truths.

What does all of this have to do with great Christians from our past? These individuals were honest, they loved the Lord, their service to the Lord came at a great sacrifice, they spoke the truth, they loved the Bible, and they accomplished enormous amounts of things for the kingdom of God. ROLE MODELS! Here are the ROLE MODELS we so crave in our society.

These are role models of our faith. We live in “neat and tidy” christianity. That is to say for most Christians, following Christ doesn’t cost them anything, or very little. Another name for our Christianity in America is “spectator Christianity.” We go to church on Sunday, looking for a good service . . . great worship and a compelling sermon. Then we go to the steak house and rate the sermon on a scale of one to 10. Then for most American Christians, we largely forget about our Christianity for the rest of the week . . . only to go back the next Sunday and do it all over again.

What am I saying? For most Christians, it doesn’t cost anything to follow Jesus.

Ahh! But the Christians featured on Those Who Have Gone Before have paid a great price to keep our Christianity on the tracks, to save the church and preserve our faith. These great Christians have paid the price for the great Christianity you enjoy today. Don’t you think you should learn about what they did for us present day Christians?

Listening the my program should inspire you to go higher, dig deeper, reach further, and produce more for God’s kingdom.

We are on Q107 or Your QFM, and you use the app to listen, at about 2:35 p.m. every week-day, Monday through Friday. Tune in at 2:30 to make sure you catch the spots. They are two minutes long.
